CONSULTANCY OBJECTIVE:

The Communications Consultant will provide targeted strategic and operational communications support to Equality Now’s MENA programme, with a focus on legal and media advocacy, dissemination of research and youth-led policy outputs, digital campaigning, and visibility of the Hurra Coalition. 

The consultancy is designed to strengthen Equality Now’s public voice in the MENA region during a defined period of high-priority advocacy moments, ensuring that content is strategically framed, survivor-centred, and aligned with organisational messaging and safeguarding standards.


Specifically, the consultancy aims to:

  • Increase the visibility, reach, and uptake of Equality Now’s MENA research, advocacy priorities, and coalition work;
  • Strengthen youth-led and survivor-centred narratives within legal and media advocacy;
  • Grow and professionalise Equality Now’s digital presence in the MENA region, and work closely with the digital team at Equality Now to ensure content is up to date on the Hurra Coalition Website;
  • Support the delivery and amplification of high-impact advocacy events, both in-person and online.


Deliverables

Communications Advocacy Support

  • Support legal and media advocacy initiatives involving youth and coalition partners in the MENA region;
  • Develop and refine key messages, media briefs, talking points, and social media content to advance advocacy objectives;
  • Contribute to documentation and amplification of advocacy activities, including digital coverage and post-activity content.
  • Contribute to donor reports, especially on communications-related activities

Research Launches and Communications

  • Communications planning and execution for the launch and dissemination of Equality Now research and studies in the MENA region;
  • Develop concise communications packages, including press releases, social media content, and visual assets;
  • Support the dissemination of materials through Equality Now’s digital platforms and partner channels.

Dissemination of Youth-Led Policy Outputs

  • Translate youth-led policy outputs into clear, accessible communications products for public, policy, and advocacy audiences;
  • Support dissemination through digital platforms, webinars, and partner networks, ensuring alignment with Equality Now’s advocacy priorities.

Online Events and Digital Promotion

  • Coordination of online events, including webinars linked to Equality Now’s studies, reports, and advocacy priorities;
  • Development of compelling digital content including social media posts, graphics, and post-event summaries;
  • Develop promotional and follow-up content, such as social media posts, speaker graphics, and post-event summaries to policy and civil society actors.

MENA LinkedIn Page and Hurra Website – Content Planning and Management

  • Develop and implement content plans for Equality Now’s MENA LinkedIn page;
  • Create professional, engaging content tailored to policy, donor, and advocacy audiences;
  • Monitor performance and contribute recommendations to strengthen reach and engagement.

Hurra Coalition – Social Media Strategy and Content

  • Support the development of the Hurra website
  • Support the development and implementation of a three-month social media approach to strengthen the visibility and narrative coherence of the Hurra Coalition;
  • Edit and disseminate short video soundbites featuring coalition members, youth advocates, and key messages;
  • Create and manage compelling coalition-focused content across digital platforms, ensuring consistency with Equality Now’s values and messaging.


KEY DELIVERABLES:

  • A 6-month communications plan aligned with MENA advocacy priorities;
  • Communications assets for legal and media advocacy activities in the region;
  • A complete communications strategy and media advocacy package for a planned MENA study launch, including but not limited to Press pitch and press release; Online SEO article; Social media toolkit; Visual assets;
  • Dissemination of content involving media outreach and digital content for youth-led policy briefs;
  • Set up and technically support Promotional and follow-up content for online webinars in the region;
  • Fully functional Hurra Coalition Website, to include the first digital report on metrics
  • Monthly content plans and agreed posts for the MENA LinkedIn page;
  • Hurra Coalition social media outputs and running website, including edited video soundbites;
  • A short end-of-consultancy report summarising activities, outputs, and recommendations.


REPORTING AND COORDINATION:

The consultant will work closely with the Associate Director- Advocacy Communications (Regions), and coordinate with Global Media and Digital Teams, MENA programme staff, coalition partners, and global communications colleagues as required.


DURATION AND LEVEL OF EFFORT:

This is a three (3) month consultancy. The level of effort will be agreed with the selected consultant and may vary depending on key events and deliverables.


CONSULTANT PROFILE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, International Relations, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in communications, advocacy, or digital media, preferably within human rights or gender equality contexts;
  • Demonstrated experience developing content for social media and digital campaigns, including video editing;
  • Strong understanding of legal and policy advocacy communications;
  • Experience working with youth movements or coalitions is an asset;
  • Familiarity with the MENA region and its political, cultural, and media landscape;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English; Arabic is a strong asset.


CONSULTANCY FEE RANGE (Monthly fee): USD $4,462.50 for 3 months (60 working days).
Consultancy fees will be paid monthly, subject to satisfactory completion and approval of agreed deliverables, and in line with Equality Now’s consultancy policies. The final consultancy fee within this range will be determined based on factors including geographic location, relevant experience, demonstrated skills, qualifications, and the agreed scope and duration of services.  

Consultant fees are set with consideration for the scope of work, level of expertise, and market benchmarks, and are intended to reflect the independent and professional nature of consultancy engagements.
