We work with a leading premium health and wellness wearable technology brand, producing scalable performance creative campaigns that drive measurable results across paid social channels. As the brand expands into the Japanese market, we need a specialist who can bridge the gap between English-language campaign briefs and compelling, culturally resonant Japanese copy.
We are looking for a Freelance Japanese Copywriter & Localisation Specialist who is exceptional at writing B2C copy for performance creative campaigns. You will translate and localise existing English-language briefs for the Japanese market, as well as ideate and write original Japanese-language content from new English briefs.
Accurately translate established campaign briefs (shot lists, scripts, CTAs, hook variations) from English to Japanese
Localise content beyond direct translation — adapting tone, cultural references, idioms, and consumer psychology for Japanese audiences
Ensure brand voice guidelines are maintained across all localised assets (e.g., specific product naming conventions, terminology restrictions)
Review and QA Japanese-language creative assets for accuracy, natural phrasing, and cultural appropriateness
Ideate and write new Japanese-language performance creative copy (hooks, body scripts, CTAs) based on English-language campaign briefs and strategic direction
Develop compelling, conversion-oriented copy for short-form video ads (UGC-style, influencer-led, and direct-response formats)
Write multiple hook variations and A/B test copy options to support scalable creative testing
Adapt messaging frameworks and value propositions for the Japanese consumer mindset while preserving campaign intent
Work closely with the creative strategy and production teams to ensure localised content aligns with campaign objectives and performance goals
Provide cultural consulting and feedback on visual direction, talent selection, and creative concepts for the Japanese market
Deliver work within established timelines and feedback cycles, managing multiple briefs concurrently
Communicate proactively in English with the wider team while delivering all consumer-facing copy in Japanese
Native-level Japanese language proficiency (written and spoken)
Professional fluency in English (ability to interpret briefs, participate in strategy discussions, and communicate with an English-speaking team)
3+ years of experience writing B2C copy for performance-focused brands, agencies, or direct-response campaigns
Demonstrated experience in copy localisation (not just translation) for the Japanese market, with a strong understanding of cultural nuance, consumer behaviour, and market-specific conventions
Portfolio that includes conversion-oriented copy for paid social, short-form video, UGC, or influencer-led creative
Strong understanding of brand positioning, performance funnels, and customer psychology
Ability to write in multiple tones — from organic and conversational (UGC/creator-style) to polished and aspirational (brand-led)
Experience working with health, wellness, fitness, or wearable technology brands
Familiarity with performance creative best practices (hook testing, scroll-stopping copy, CTA optimisation)
Experience writing for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, or similar short-form video formats
Understanding of the Japanese digital advertising landscape and social media consumption habits
Experience working within a remote, cross-functional, and internationally distributed team

You will receive detailed English-language briefs with visual references, brand guidelines, and strategic context. Your role is to bring these to life in Japanese with the same energy, intent, and conversion potential.
