Duration: This is a 2-month rolling contract, terminable with one week’s notice

Consultancy Fee: USD $2,500 - $3,800 per month/GBG £2,000 - £2,800

The final consultancy fee within this range will be determined based on factors including geographic location, relevant experience, demonstrated skills, qualifications, and the agreed scope and duration of services.

CONSULTANCY OBJECTIVES:

The  Media Communications Consultant (vendor) will support the implementation of Equality Now’s media strategy by working with the Associate Director, Media, in coordinating global media outreach, supporting high-quality media content creation, tracking and reporting on media coverage, and maintaining relationships with journalists and influencers. The role contributes to amplifying Equality Now’s programmatic and advocacy work by ensuring media visibility, accuracy, responsiveness, and impact across digital, print, and broadcast platforms.

During the contract period, the Vendor will deliver the following: 

Support with advancing Equality Now’s global media objectives:

  • Proactive media pitching and placement on fulfill advocacy communications objectives relating to the release of upcoming Equality Now publications, strategic litigation verdicts, and advocacy campaigns 
  • Develop clear, accurate, and persuasive pitch copy tailored to target outlets.
  • Proactively pitch story ideas, editorial content, campaign materials, and spokespersons to relevant journalists and media outlets globally.
  • Identify reactive and proactive media engagement opportunities.
  • Secure media placements across broadcast, print, and digital platforms.
  • Coordinate and manage timely responses to media inquiries.
  • Prepare media briefing notes and key message documents.
  • Arrange and manage logistics for media interviews.
  • Ensure media engagements are documented.

Media materials development:

  • Draft, edit, and support distribution of media materials, including:
    • Press releases
    • Media advisories
    • Op-eds
    • Q&As
    • Talking points and backgrounders
  • Translate legal, policy, and technical programmatic content into compelling, accessible media copy suitable for non-specialist audiences.
  • Assist with Equality Now’s work responding to gendered disinformation and misinformation.
  • Ensure accuracy and clarity while preserving legal and policy integrity.
  • Ensure all materials align with Equality Now’s messaging, tone, and strategic priorities, and are fully signed off.
  • Draft social media copy to amplify media coverage and press materials in collaboration with the digital team.
  • Ensure messaging is aligned across press and digital platforms.

Media database and records management:

  • Update and maintain Equality Now’s global media contact database, including media mapping.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date media outreach logs.
  • Ensure data accuracy, organization, and accessibility within media tracking systems.

Media monitoring and reporting:

  • Track and compile Equality Now media mentions across digital, print, and broadcast platforms using media monitoring tools and staff reporting.
  • Maintain and update Equality Now’s media monitoring database, ensuring data accuracy.
  • Produce regular media coverage reports, including analysis of reach, themes, and impact.


AND COORDINATION:

The consultant will work closely with the Associate Director, Media, and coordinate with Global Media and Digital Teams, programme staff, coalition partners, and global communications colleagues as required.


DURATION:

This is a two (2) month consultancy, terminable with one week’s notice


CONSULTANCY FEE RANGE (Monthly fee): USD $2,500 - $3,800 per month/GBG £2,000 - £2,800

Consultancy fees will be paid monthly upon issuance of an invoice, subject to satisfactory completion and approval of agreed deliverables, and in line with Equality Now’s consultancy policies. 

The final consultancy fee within this range will be determined based on factors including geographic location, relevant experience, demonstrated skills, qualifications, and the agreed scope and duration of services.  

Consultant fees are set with consideration for the scope of work, level of expertise, and market benchmarks, and are intended to reflect the independent and professional nature of consultancy engagements.


CONSULTANT PROFILE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, International Relations, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in communications, advocacy, or digital media, preferably within human rights or gender equality contexts;
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with a diverse international team;
  • Strong understanding of policy advocacy communications, women’s rights, and Equality Now’s work;
  • Understanding of issues around disinformation is desirable.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills in English; additional languages are a strong asset;
  • Excellent organisational skills and adept at using spreadsheets.
